Hi Everyone,

I live in Harrison, ID, which is a very small town on Lake Coeur d'Alene. It is about a 45 minute drive from Coeur d'Alene, and about an hour drive from Spokane, WA. I would love to meet any other students that live near me.

P.S. Did you recognize that line form the movie Toy Story? Mr. Potato Head was from Idaho you know! :P

Hi all! I'm in the midst of awaiting my course materials to arrive and am quite anxious to get started. My "box" is due to be shipped on Mar. 8. I've been using my time to wade through the forum and have been taking notes regarding helpful tips, advice, links, software solutions, etc. I've found that there is a wealth of information here which I'm sure will be helpful to me once I'm fully immersed in the course.

I'm a bit nervous because I'm 39 years old and my memory isn't nearly as good as it used to be. I took another course several years ago without doing my research. (Shame on me!) Long story short, the "school" turned out to be less than satisfactory and I walked away lighter in my wallet with a heavy heart. After MUCH research, I chose to enroll in M-Tec and am convinced that I've made a wonderful choice. I've been reading a LOT of posts from students who are having second thoughts and self doubt, but have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of support here.

I am feeling really good about my decision and have adopted a "failure is not an option" mindset. Luckily, I don't have small children to contend with anymore. My youngest is 18 and in the Navy, and my oldest is 20 and expecting her first baby soon. I'm going to be a grandma and new student at the same time. :cool:

I hope to get to know some of you and look forward to diving into the first session.

Hello,

I just started the course and I'm plugging away in session one. I live in Shoreline, Washington, which is a few miles north of Seattle. I'm married and have two kids, both boys, ages ten and thirteen. Wow! I can't believe my son is thirteen already. Does anyone live close to Shoreline? If anyone does, maybe we can create a study group?

The course seems very challenging. I haven't studied in awhile so I know I'm going to need to put a lot of time into this course. I love it so far! I have no background in the medical field so everything is new to me.

Well, my diploma is in the mail as they say. And now that I have had my first perusal of the COC, I have returned to cheer everyone on! My concerns about finding work have all but vanished.

I'm up to my ears with employment testing right now, which is great, but I can't post too much. Hopefully my next post will be as a working person!:D

[font=Arial]Hi everyone. I think this is the 1st time I've posted! I had to allot my time, and I really wanted to focus on maximizing my MTec training so I really wanted to limit my 'chat' time. But now...I'm awaiting the thumbs up from my instructor to do my PE test! I can't wait.
I am a little nervous, however, about the job prospects. I have put some feelers out there and I am finding that many US companies are very resistant to hiring Canadians! Is this a common experience with you? I applied with MedQuist and just rocked on their tests, but I'm still waiting to hear back from them. I applied with Accentus as well, but haven't heard a peep from them. Not sure where my work search is going to take me, but I truly do need work soon. We sapped our LOC for me to go to school! I am so very excited, though, to be so very close to graduating and about how much I truly enjoy being a transcriptionist!
Are other Canadians on this forum having job finding struggles?

Hi All,

I just enrolled Sunday and am anxiously awaiting my box! For any of you other Oregonians, I am in Beaverton. I look forward to talking to everyone on the site soon. :P

Just a little about me--I'm 38 and have a Bachelors degree under my belt. I also have 2 certifications in personal training and massage therapy. I'm hoping the anatomy I had to learn for those will help me with this subject matter. I have 2 stepchildren ages 13 and 21 and I am trying to get pregnant right now. I decided to take this course because I wanted to work at home when the baby was born and I love learning about medicine. I think it is so interesting! I actually tested with a national company and passed the objective portion and failed the transcription portion so schooling was my next step. I looked at a variety of schools before choosing M-Tec. I think this was the best decision I could make!

I hope to talk to fellow students soon!

"Ready...Set...GROW!" is the theme for our Michigan 2009 Student Appreciation Day.

I appreciate the chance we had to speak in Nashville during AHDI's Annual Convention and Expo.

Experienced transcriptionists are also invited to this event to support the student attendees and be available for questions. Continuing education credits are accepted by AHDI and AHIMA, as well, for those with RHIT or RHIA
status.

Hi, everyone! I think this topic has been brought up before, but since I finally went ahead and enrolled I thought I'd poke around to see who's in the Hampton Roads area. I live near Mt. Trashmore in Virginia Beach and I've been here about 3 1/2 years. I like it here, but the cost of living sure can be rough compared to rural Michigan where I was born and raised! I'm 24 and live with my boyfriend, our two cats, and baby pug. I'm not military, nor is he, which I know isn't the norm around here. ;) Just looking to meet some M-TEC friends that might be nearby... MAHDI STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST

The Michigan Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (MAHDI) is holding its second annual student essay contest. The winner will receive waived registration to attend the MAHDI Annual Meeting from October 9-11, 2009, at the Hilton Grand Rapids Airport. To participate, students must:

1. Be a member of AHDI (no later than date of submission of essay).
2. Reside in Michigan.
3. Provide a letter written by a current or recent instructor of their transcription program outlining what makes them a good candidate for the award.
4. Submit an essay answering the following question: What are the benefits of involvement in your professional association?

The essay must be 350-500 words in length, contain a footer with the student's name and AHDI member number, and must be electronically submitted as an MS Word 2003-2007 compatible (or an RTF file) NO LATER THAN 11:59 p.m. on September 18, 2009. Essays should be sent to amartin@qidtranscription.com. The subject line of the email should indicate MAHDI Student Essay Contest.

Essays will be evaluated on content and how well students followed the above requirements. The winner will be notified no later than Friday, September 25, 2009.
