For those of you who do not read the General Forums, I thought I would post this for you here to show you how important technology is to your success. Once again, thanks to Mike DeTuri for all your help with this. We could NOT do this without you, buddy!

In the September 2006 Plexus Magazine for AAMT members and Student members, Dee Thomas of Thomas Transcription wrote a letter to the editor. Below is what particularly caught my eye.

"Last week, I ased my staff a question: "Does anyone care about quality anymore?" You know how strong I am on doing it right the first time and proofing the line above. These days, I'd rather hire an M-TEC student with tech savvy than to hire an MT with 15 years' experience in a hospital environment because that's all she has -- a hospital environment that gave her absolutely no feedback or tech savvy for the future, which is now inevitably upon us. It's sad but true."

You can read more of Dee's letter as well as a wealth of interesting information on the profession in this month's edition of Plexus. If you are a member of AAMT, you should receive the printed copy, or you can go to the American Association For Medical Transcription website http://www.aamt.org and read the journal and Plexus there.

Susan,

Thanks for posting this info. I do receive Plexus but it is nice to know that others who do not receive it can have access to this article.

Folks, be sure to read the article. It's very interesting.

Susan,

This is just one more indication of how far M-TEC is ahead of the curve.  Kudos to you and Kathy for bringing Mike on board.  Kudos to Mike for the terrific job he is doing.  I believe the automated health care record and voice recognition will force MTs and MEs to push the technology envelope.  It is great to see that there are others that recognize what a fine job M-TEC is doing to prepare its students.

Thank you for posting my OneNote document on the SLC as part of the Electronic Organizer info.  OneNote is just one more tool in the technology toolkit that can help MTs with the quality and speed of their work.

Yes huh!!! YAY!!

We are all indeed fortunate. I did a lot of research into online schools for medical transcription before registering for MTEC. I haven't regretted one day. The support is fantastic. The fellow students are fun. The staff are unbelievably helpful and supportive and the lessons, while not easy, are designed so well to teach teach teach so that we come out winners!

And yes, we are very fortunate to have someone as savvy and as patient as Mike DeTuri to turn to for help!

Do we have a mascot? A school flag? Anybody an artist? (though maybe it's just as well not to have one ... Scottsdale Community College has a mascot. It's an artichoke. Chokey. I kid you not)

A mascot? Now that's a clever idea (lol). Wonder what he/she/it would look like?!

I think a mascot is a great idea. I know this has been posted for a while, but I just have this image in my head that will not go away.....I had to comment!

I can picture the M-TEC mascot as being a cute little character with headphones on, carrying a computer keyboard like one would carry a drum in a marching band, the BOS on their “music holder,” and wearing an M-TEC sweatshirt.

Hmmm…maybe Peiggi's daughter could draw this character. Have you seen her cartoon website? She is very good!

What a cool idea, Lana! Only thing I would add is the TT someplace. We HAVE to have the TT!

I know you posted this a long time ago, but I just had to add...

The mascot at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi is an okra.  I kid you not.  They are the Fighting Okra.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that the woman commenting about proofing and quality had a typo in her quote? No one is perfect, that 's for sure. I just thought it was funny!

Have a nice day.
