I'm looking for information from those of you who have taken the RMT exam.  AAMT has not yet compiled statistics regarding the percentage of those who passed the exam on the first try.  I will be graduating within the next month or so.  I plan to order the RMT exam guide and take the RMT prep course.  If I take and pass the exam after graduation but before I apply for a job, I would imagine this would make me a more attractive job applicant.  For those of you who have taken the exam:

1.  How long after graduation did you take the exam?

2.  How many months of work experience, if any, did you have before taking the exam?

3.  Do you feel it's more beneficial to take the exam right after graduation or to wait until after having several months of work experience?

4.  On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the difficulty of the exam?

5.  Did you pass?

6.  If you did not pass, what do you feel was the greatest contributing factor--lack of experience, difficulty of material, not having studied specifically for exam, etc.?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.

Nancy

Congratulations, Stephanie and Marsha!

If any of you grads can answer Nancy's questions (above) regarding the RMT exam, I would be interested also.  I have just started session 17 and have the same questions.  Thanks!

Thank you, Susan, for the mention.  The "something special" I did to celebrate was dinner out at my favorite restaurant with my hubby!  Woo-hoo!

I want to address Nancy's post...

I took the exam 1 week after submitting my final pre-employment test.  I haven't received my final graduation notice, so I guess I took the RMT before graduating!  Therefore, no work experience yet.  I am very glad I took the test right away.  Because the MTEC program is so thorough, it is like a very long RMT prep!  I did, however, purchase the RMT guide so that I could get some focused studying and refresher on things that I had covered at the beginning of MTEC.

I found the test to be challenging, but harder than the content, I found some of the directions confusing.  Time will not be a problem, so TAKE YOUR TIME to read the directions very carefully!

A note on the RMT guide...overall a very good resource, but the transcription portion really threw my confidence.  The program is extremely picky with only 1 correct possible answer, so I was getting terrible scores on my practice tests.  (For example, on the practice tests, you are supposed to only use 1 space after a period and will get marked wrong if you use 2)  The actual test has many possible correct answers programmed in.  With all the transcription practice you get with MTEC, I might suggest using the RMT guide for medical, English and BOS content only.

As I said, I am glad that I did not wait to take the test.  I did pass, but I wish I had taken more time working through the RMT guide.  It was a pretty intense week of studying that book!

I hope this helps and best of luck!

Maria

Maria,

Congratulations on passing your RMT exam!  Thanks so much for responding to my post.  I, too, bought the RMT prep guide, and I also found the dictations on the CD to be very challenging.

I will be taking the exam within the next couple of weeks, and I'll keep in mind to pay extra careful attention to the directions.

Thanks again.

Nancy

Thank you Maria for taking the time to answer Nancy's questions.  Our program is definitely geared toward preparing you to take this exam right after graduation, and graduates like yourself seem to be doing a great job at passing this exam.  I wish that every graduate would take the time to sit for this exam upon graduating while everything is still fresh in their minds.

Each day is a gift, so make the most of it!!!
