Is everybody sleeping???  Time to wake up, elections are almost over!  We really need to get some ideas on where we can get started so that once officers are elected, we can keep moving and get the excitement flowing.

Have you taken time to look through the initiatives on Mission Possible at http://www.ahdionline.org/mp/?  If not, look through them, and get some discussion started on 1 or 2, or more, that you would like to start working on as a chapter.  How about committees?  Fundraising, membership, legislative, bylaws and policies and procedures, awards and recognitions, etc.?

Wednesday, November 14, elections will be complete, and we need to help our new officers out by already having some ideas going, so I would love to hear from you!

I think that initiative #1 is a good one to take part in.

The following are the two topics that interest me the most. I have not completely read through the downloads but am very interested to see how these play out.

Initiative #4
Coordinate a local effort to advocate for and promote mandatory credentialing in your state.

Mandatory credentialing? Is there a way to make that work? Is it feasible? So many questions about this one. I like the sounds of it, but can it work...

Initiative #9
Promote better dictation practices through a targeted initiative to educate local providers using the Dictation Best Practices Tool Kit.

Who wouldn't like this!?!?!  It would be great but how receptive would doctors be? More questions.

I still need to read the downloads available, I'm sure there are some answers there. These are the 2 that stand out for me, but there are plenty of others that are important.

...and to add a little something more. I can not wrap my mind around how a group that is scattered all over the country works in committees, handles fundraising, etc.  It must work, but it is a bit mind boggling to me at this point.

Hey Dawn..

This part of your post popped out tonight for me:

Dawn

...and to add a little something more. I can not wrap my mind around how a group that is scattered all over the country works in committees, handles fundraising, etc.  It must work, but it is a bit mind boggling to me at this point.

**From what I gather, the location of everyone involved isn't the problem so much as getting the committee leadership in place, along with whatever the reason for the committee would be.

For example.. Fundraising.. I would think that whoever serves on that committee would meet in one of the online conference rooms or classrooms here at M-TEC, (possibly through AHDI, though I am not at all sure if that is feasible) and the meeting would be held in much the same way as the classes are held on Monday evenings.  People would throw out ideas for fundraising, objections would be raised, all for the idea would vote yes, all against vote no.. volunteers to chair each part of the fundraisers would volunteer.. and then all of the members in that committee would start spreading the word through any means allowable to get folks to support the cause here and raise the funds needed to support this chapter throughout the year.  I would think that scheduling of each fundraiser needed would be done at this same time, and in that light, people would actually commit to take on an individual fundraiser as a chair for it.  Hopefully, we will have enough participating members here so that no one has to serve in the same capacity twice unless they want to do so.

Of course, I am speculating 100%, but this is how committees that I have served on in my local community has done it in person.. I would not think that it would be that much different just because we are spread all over the country.  We can make anything happen if we all believe in it, ya know?

Perhaps someone more seasoned in fundraising can pipe in and either blow my speculation out of the water and tell me how it is really done..   or they can add to what I said.. just on the off chance that I am close to the mark with my speculation..

I am SO loving my MT career!

At the Online Association (formerly the Online Chapter), we do all of our committee work online. The majority of our meetings are held on our forum and sometimes there are meetings in our conference room (like M-TEC's classroom). It can be done for sure. I used to chair the fundraising committee at the OA and I can tell you that meeting online is not difficult at all...something different that takes a little getting used to, yes, impossible...no.
