Today, watch for the announcement from the Pentagon regarding the precedent-setting Military Spouse Initiative for medical transcription.  The Department of Labor together with the Department of Defense is launching “Mission Medical Transcription:  The Career that Moves with You!” by hosting governors, members of Congress and representatives from 18 military installations along with Dr. Peter Preziosi of AHDI  to be part of the formal kick-off.   (AHDI soft-launched this program in April, but the government is doing a hard launch today.)

Also, AHDI is now offering monthly webinars to anyone interested in learning about a career in medical transcription.  These webinars are held on the last Saturday of every month at 10 am Pacific time, taught by Kim Buchanan and Lea Sims.  The next one is Saturday, November 24th.  Please spread the word to your friends or family members who may want to learn more about this profession.  They can sign up for the webinars and download basic information at the AHDI website - www.ahdionline.org - and click on "Become an MT."

Medical transcription is not a job – it is a career choice. Respect the patient information you handle. Someone’s life may depend on it.

This is great news!  I am happy to see this happening.  Being a military wife and a SAHM to 3, it was very hard for me to find a career that I could do while still being there for my children and moving where the Army sent us.  I am so happy to have found MTEC and am happy to be a step away from graduation...ready to start my career.  I know that there are so many military spouses that would be wonderful MTs!
